Wintonbury Hills Continues Banner Year with Connecticut Public Links Championship

Golfweek’s “Best Course You Can Play in Connecticut” earns praise from state’s best amateurs.

(BLOOMFIELD, Conn.)Wintonbury Hills Golf Course – the only Pete Dye designed course in New England – recently hosted 108 of Connecticut’s best amateur golfers from 41 different state public courses for the 2019 Connecticut Public Links Championship.

Peter Tomlinson won the 34th Public Links Championship by shooting a final-round 66 to overtake first-round leader Gabe Van Ness at Wintonbury Hills. A self-taught player from Seymour, this is a coming-of-age win for Tomlinson who has never won a Connecticut State Golf event, let alone junior event prior.

Opened in 2004, Wintonbury Hills represents Dye's first and only championship design in New England. The classic links-style 6,711-yard, par-70 layout provided a noteworthy test in the 36-hole championship hosted by the Connecticut State Golf Association.

“Wintonbury Hills is easily one of the best golf courses in Connecticut, and one of the best public courses in the Northeast,” says Mike Moraghan, executive director of the Connecticut State Golf Association. “It is a great facility for players of all abilities, from beginners to championship competitors. If you love golf, you will love Wintonbury Hills.”

Owned by the Town of Bloomfield and managed by Indigo Golf Partners since the course’s inception, this beautiful layout was ranked No. 1 in Golfweek’s “2019 Best Courses You Can Play in Connecticut.”

“Our first-place ranking in The Constitution State and successful 2019 Public Links is a testament to the wonderful partnership enjoyed between the Town of Bloomfield and Indigo Golf Partners at Wintonbury Hills,” says Ciaran Carr, PGA, general manager of Wintonbury Hills Golf Course. “As Wintonbury Hills’ reputation continues to elevate across the Northeast, we look forward to hosting more championships in subsequent years.”

In 2019, Indigo Golf Partners celebrates its 30th anniversary of building and refining the strongest operating platform in golf. Additional Indigo Golf Partners-managed courses in Connecticut include East Hartford Golf Club, Lyman Orchards Golf Club and The Windham Club.
