Meet John:
John came to Lyman Orchards in 2018 from The Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, CT. John was able to learn what it takes to excel as an instructor, merchandiser, club fitter, tournament coordinator, as well as provide a high level of customer service. John has brought all of those traits as well as exceptional leadership and high organizational skills to Lyman Orchards. John resurrected the PGA Jr. League program in 2018 and now can boast Lyman Orchards as the largest program in New England with 134 participants in 2020, the 10th biggest group in the United States. His recent accolades as Youth Player Development Award Winner, Top 50 Kids Coaches in World and Top 100 Growth of the Game Teaching Professionals are all reflections of the professionalism as well as success of Lyman Junior Golf. What got John into Golf: “My Dad brought home a rickety set of clubs with some old used golf balls one day and hung them in the garage. He knew I loved mini-golf and thought maybe I’d enjoy real golf. Shortly there after I cut 9 holes in the back yard with a potting shovel and made my very own course.” Biggest Career Influences: “I’ve been lucky to work under some tremendously talented professionals both in and out of golf. Working for four years at The University of Connecticut’s Women’s Basketball Office, Geno Auriemma and his staff taught me what it takes to be a winner and how much organization it takes to be your very best on a regular basis. I benefited by working for 2013 LPGA Professional of the Year Kammy Maxfeldt of Birchwood CC in Westport, CT who taught me how to be “professional” in every sense of the word. I was a first hand witness to some of the best golf instruction in the State of Connecticut under now three-time CT PGA Teacher of the Year George Connor. I had the privilege of working alongside a local legend and CT PGA Hall of Fame Member in Jack McConachie of Pine Valley GC who quite simply loves the game of golf more than anyone I have or will ever know. Most recently I had the good fortune of being part of The Hartford Golf Club professional staff led by PGA Head Golf Professional Joe Connerton who is now the head golf professional at The Round Hill Club in Greenwich, CT. Joe gets the best out of you every day with his excitement for the golf business and the attention to detail he brings to everything he touches. The members of The Round Hill Club are very lucky to have him. You can’t help but want to run through a wall for him and do the best job possible.”
